LINER STRATHALLAN

The new P. and O. liner Strathallan, the fifth of her class built by Messrs. YickersjArmstrong, was launched at BarroWby Lady Cromer in the presence Of, a distinguished company, which included Lord Cromer, Lord Craigmyte, Sir Charles Craven, Colonel N. S. Falla, and many officers of the British ! and several foreign services. The vessel was described, by Lord Craigmyle to be the finest of tne "Sti-aths," even better than the Stratheden. j •..--- : . The Strathallan has an- overall length of 664ift, and a breadth of 84ft. The gross.tonnage will be 24,000. The turbines, driven frohi-oil-fired boilers, will develop 24,000 horse-power, giving -a speed of 21 knots. Her crew will number 563, and she will carry 448 firstclass passengers in 216 single and 116 two-berth rooms on C, D, E, and F decks. ■

The tourist class accommodation, little inferior to the first, is for 563 passengers in 233 cabins. The diningrooms for both classes, will run the full width of the ship, and will b,e 38ft long, With seating for 260 and 332 respectively. \

• Electric lifts, and telephones in every cabin, will facilitate communications. The public rooms of the first class on »B deck comprise luxuriouslyfitted reading and writing rooms, a lounge, a dance floor, a ship's Lido, a sports and games area, a swimming pool,, a verandah cafe and bar, and a children's dining saloon and children's nursery. Most of these features aro repeated in tho tourist class. The Strathallan is intended mainly for tho India service, and it is expected she will be ready for sea next March, a few weeks after the Stratheden.
