FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY
ONE PHASE OF BIG JOB
The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage), stated today that in connection with the Dominion's secondary industries a small but important beginning had been made to safeguard them. Representatives of the footwear industry had met the special sub-com-mittee of the Cabinet which has the task of surveying national resources and industrial prospects.- The meeting of Ministers and manufacturers^ was for the purpose of preparing a scheme of action that would be desirable for the safeguarding of . the Dominions footwear industry. ~ „ "That is just one phase," said, Mi. Savage, "for the Cabinet committee has the interests of the whole ot our secondary industries to study, Our^overseas trade relations are necessardy involved and this is one of the aspects - which takes most time to reach a sat, factory understanding on. We have already communicated with the Unitpd Kingdom Government, and now that the, Commonwealth elections are ■ over, we are making contact with the Australian Government , concerning trade relations'as they affect our secondary industries." . >
