CONCILIATION COUNCIL

. Conditions for s.toremen and packers of General Motors, Todd Motors, and Ford Motors were considered at a conciliation oeuncil today over which Mr. M. J. Reardori presided. The parties were represented as foll_ ows: Employers: Messrs. T. H. Turvey, S. Frickleton, R^ D. Wraight, and W. J. Mountjoy. Employees: Messrs. T. J. L. Tucker, C. Davidson, J. Laracy, and J. Tucker (agent). The workers' claimed £5 15s for leading hands, in charge of two or more workers, £5 10s for electrical hoist truck operators, and £5 5s for others. The employers offered £4 15s for leading hands, and £4 5s for others.

A 40-hour five-day week was agreed on, with time and a half after three hours and for four hours' work on Saturday. It was agreed that youths should start at £ 1 5s weekly, with the wage rising in 5s increases every six nionths till the rate of £3 10s weekly was reached.
