WORKERS' HOMES

(To the Editor.) Sir Mr. Wilkinson in the course of his remarks in the House of Representatives stated that the last Government in office had looked after the workers well in regard to housing. Now, Sir, will Mr. Wilkinson, or any member of the National Party, which is claiming that.it did so much for the workers, of this country, dispute that thousands of workers lost their homes and their life savings through the action of the past Government in reducing wages to such a low level that it was impossible for them to meet their obligations. The action of the past Government was the means of driving so many people into flats and rooms, which is very • undesirable in a country like New Zealand where there is plenty of room and space for 'the building of homes where families can be brought up decently. Good luck to the Labour Party's housing scheme, and may it still carry on at a much faster rate. —I: am, etc., A.: JOHNSON.
