The "Daily Telegraph" says that vflthin the next week the New Zea-j land flying-woman Miss Jean Batten j will leave Sydney in an attempt to establish a new solo air record from Australia to England. ■ - By averaging between 1500 and 2000 miles a day she hopes to reduce substantially Mr. H. F. Broadbent's record of 6 days 8 hours 56 minutes. Miss Batten will fly the single-en-gined Percival Gull-machine in which she made the first through flight from England tq New Zealand last year. Auxiliary petrol tanks will give a flying range of over 2000 miles. Miss Batten said that Darwin will be her starting point, which she will leave at dawn so as to make the crossing of the Timor Sea in daylight. She will announce her further itinerary later. "My main object," she said, "is to get back to England, and to me the I most convenient way is to, fly. The j attempt on the record is incidental to I the flight."
