METHODIST CLUB

The annual meeting of the Methodist B.C Unions' Tennis Club was held at Wesley Sunday School, Taranaki Street, on September 14, Mr. W E. Howe, president of the club, presiding over a large attendance of members and intending members. The annual report and balance-sheet were presented and the election of officers for the ensuing season resulted as follows: — Patron, Rev. J. Richards; president, Mr. W. E. Howe; vice-presidents, Miss D. Worboys, Miss E. Paul, the Rev. Mr Slade, and Mr. P. Clarke; captain, Mr Ic. Smith; vice-captain, Miss D. Plumridge; secretary. Miss B. Lomas; treasurer, Mr. J. H. Richards; management committee, Misses L. Young and M Worboys and Mr. J. McCormick; auditor, Mr. J. H. Gaustad. The evening was brought to a close with supper and a social period. OPENING DAY. The club was opened last Saturday. After an introductory speech by Mr. W. E. Howe, the club's president, the courts were declared open for the 1937-38 season by the patron, the Rev. James Richards, who served the first ball. There was a very large attendance of players and all are assured of a successful season judging by the enthusiasm evinced at the opening. Afternoon tea was served in the school. Mr W. H. Kelly represented the Wellington Lawn Tennis League and Messrs. Gray, Grant, Simpson, and Stephens represented the committee of the Mount Cook School.
