AUSTRALIAN BUDGET
"NEW YORK TIMES" TRIBUTE
NEW YORK, September 16.
The "New York Times" on the occasion of the prorogation of the Aus* tralian Parliament, editorially couples a tribute to the Lyons Government and an ironic thrust at the United States Administration.
"The Australian Budget reduced taxation and increased its defence and social services appropriations, yet its surplus exceeded six million dollars," says the newspaper. "What shall be said of such a misconception of Governmental duty? .The most polite description is that it is aboriginal. There is small danger of the example's spreading to nations devoted to abundant life and an empty pocket." ■
