Gala Dance. , Attention is drawn to an advertisement in this issue regarding the annual grand gala dance to be Held m the Assembly Hall, Brougham Street, on Wednesday next. A good orchestra will be in attendance and guests are assured of a very enjoyable evening of modern and old-time dancing. An Appreciation. A well-attended meeting of the board of directors of the Y.W.C.A. was held recently; Mrs. Robert Gardner presided. Feeling reference, was made to the passing of Mrs. David Jones and the following appreciation recorded:— "It is with deep sorrow that we record the sudden death of Mrs. David Jones, a dearly-loved member of the board of directors. No board ■ member was more'willing to take her full share of responsibility and work, and her bright and happy personality endeared her to one and all. She will be sadly missed. Our hearts go out in deepest sympathy to her family." Wadestown National Ecservc. The Wadestown branch of the Women's National Reserve recently held a most enjoyable "coin afternoon" at the residence of Miss Banks, Oban Street, in connection with the Residential ' Nursery. Musical items were given by Mesdames Eastwood, Godier, and Irwin, and Miss van Staveren entertained with elocutionary items. Mesdames Doctor and Jrwin were the piana accompanists. Among those present were Mesdames H. P. Thompson, E. Clere, E. Johnston, R. J. Booth, Doctor, Crick, J. R. Smith, Grainger, W. McKenzie, S. Waters, J. Stewart, Mudge, Rattray, Peebles, Munro, W. Norris, Eaton, R. Kerr, and the Misses Banks, Wiltshire, van Staveren, and L. Hall. Cheerful Party. The balcony at the Majestic Cabaret recently was very gay and cheery when Mr. and Mrs. R. Currie gave a party in honour of their daughter Jeanne. Mrs. Currie received her young guests wearing a gown of blue marocain with sleeves and yoke of lace. The guest of honour wore a frock of white and gold star dust cloque, with dinner jacket to match. The small tables were set round in groups, while the supper tables were artistically decorated in gold and white. A delicious supper was served. Mr. Currie presented his daughter with a gold key, and some complimentary speeches were made by Mr. F. Seymour and Mr. G. Lock. Among those present were Misses L. Hickey, S. Lyons, P. Lyons, A. Blanchard, I. Manning, N. Hill, P. Preggin, Y. Denton, H. Wornbusch, E. Shinnon, E. Schor, I. Adams, M. Stewart, G. Sixtus (Nelson), J. Collier, G. Jordan, and Messrs. J. Corcoran, D. Currie, N. Sheriffs. . ; ..'..■ Bridge Afternoon. The last of a series of bridge afternoons in aid of the Khandallah Croquet Club was held at the residence of Mrs. Living, president of the club. A very enjoyable time was spent, the prizewinners being Mrs. Williamson and Mrs. Wilkinson. Mrs. Living thanked the people who had supported the efforts during the season, and reminded them that the croquet season was about to open, and new members would be welcome. A very hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Living for so kindly acting as hostess at these gatherings was carried by acclamation.
