AUCKLAND STAKES UP

The Auckland Trotting Club has fur-, ther increased the stakes for the October Meeting, and the prize money has been raised £700. No race is worth less than £200, while the improvers' and maiden classes have been increased substantially. The principal events, the Jellicoe and Labour Day Handicaps, are worth £300 each, with a limit of 4min 36sec, two miles, and the chief sprint races, the Electric and Remuera Handicaps, are endowed with £225, at a limit of 2min 47sec.

Blue Mountain finished fifth in the last Trotting Cup off 4min 25sec, and won the Ollivier Handicap in 4min 17sec. He is now on 4min 24sec. Blue Mountain showed by his 2min 38 3-5 sec for a mile and a quarter at Addineton that he will again be a formidable proposition in big events.
