200 MEN OUT

WATERFRONT STRIKE

TROUBLE AT AUCKLAND

NON-UNION LABOUR

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, This Day,

Labour trouble has developed on tho waterfront. It started through a dispute between the "seagulls" or nonunion workers and the regular union members in connection with unloading the Narbada, which arrived from Calcutta this morning.

No union labour was available for unloading the vessel and 200 "seagulls" were called. Later work on the Hertford was completed, and 50 union members came to the Narbada. According to an understanding 50 "seagulls" should have retired and allowed the 50 unionists to continue the work instead. However, 200 "seagulls" walked off and the unloading was held 'up.

The "seagulls" placed pickets to prevent non-union labour operating.

The latest news is that work is paralysed on the Akaroa and almost at a standstill on the Waiwera.

There is likelihood of the trouble spreading.* • ■'
