DEVELOPING RESOURCES

The attention of the Government has again been directed towards the possibilities of agricultural development in the Chatham Islands, There is also a suggestion that the Government may decide to purchase the cheese factory at the islands, converting it into a State enterprise. ' In response to representations made by the islanders the member for Lytteiton (Mr. T. H. McCombs) recently approached the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. L. Martin) on the question of further developing the resources of the islands. He had received a reply from ,the Minister stating that the last report made by the Department was in 1929, and that the Director of Agriculture has been asked to give the question further consideration and also to investigate the advisability of purchasing the cheese factory. -
