The .Minister of Defence) Sir Archdale Parkhill, introducing the defence estimal.es in the House of Representatives, said that aji air force squadron equipped with reconnaissance and fighter • and bomber aircraft will be established at Darwin during this financial year. In the enlarged naval programme three anti-submarine vessels are to" be built and £725.000 is to be spent on coastal defence. New fighting awcraft on order will have a speed of 300 miles an hour. Eight squadrons, furnishing a firstline strength of 96 aircraft, have, no^ been organised and nine more squadrons, with 102 aircraft, are to ba formed. The cruisers Canberra and Australia are to be armoured mora heavily. v
