MONTAGUE'S TRIAL

PLEA OF NOT GUILTY

(Reoeived September 9, 10.10 a.m.) ELIZABETH TOWN (N.Y.), Sept/ 7. The golfer John Montague was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft of 700 dollars. His trial will take place during the week beginning October 11. Montague declared that he did not know Roger Norton, who has already served thirty months' imprisonment for his share in the hold-iip with which Montague is charged.

John Montague. whose cinema friends rallied to his aid, was-recently extradited from California for a hearing concerning an indictment in Essex County, New York, charging him with a 700-dollar robbery The police said that Montague, whose source of livelihood had been a Hollywood mystery, was actually Laverne Moore Montague. They stated that the first charge resulted from a prank when he was .iust a boy, but they intended to question him regarding other robberies. The Judge, in granting Montague bail on August 26. said that Montague resembled Jean Valjean, the principal character in Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables."
