BOARD OF CONTROL

At a meeting of the Wellington Rugby League Board of Control this week the Petone senior team was declared the winners''of the Walmsley Shield competition. A letter of congratulation was forwarded to the club. The Petone seniors will play Western Suburbs at New this Saturday, and at the request of the Petone- Club the board agreed to allow the Petone senior and reserve grade teams a bye on Saturday. It was stated by the club that a number of reserve grade players were making the trip to Taranaki. . ■.. ■ The Canterbury* Rugby League junior management committee wrote offering the St. George reserve grade team a match against the Linwood Club juniors at Christchurch on September 18. It was decided to play the final on Saturday at the Randwick SCThe Inangah'ua (West Coast) Rugby League wrote seeking a match against the. local representatives at Wellington. The secretary, Mr. E. J. Elliott; was instructed to reply, regretting that owing to the closing of suitable grounds and the lateness of the season, the fixture was not advisable. Under the circumstances it was decided to offer Inangahua a match in Wellington early next season. Messrs. F. Wisnesky and J. Stevens, who will travel to Taranaki with the Petone team, were invited to represent the Wellington Rugby League in discussions with the Taranaki Rugby League. Advice was received that the Petone Borough Council had granted the Rugby League a three-year lease of North Park. Board members who had inspected the North Park ground agreed that the turf was excellent and one of the finest playing grounds in Wellington. The Petone Club advised that it was going to floodlight the ground for training and erect its own clubroom and dressing-room. "Not only in Wellington, but generally, the Rugby League is indebted to those responsible for this success," said the chairman, Mr. W. T. Scotland. A letter expressing the Rugby League's appreciation was forwarded to the Petone Borough Council. The senior knock-out competition will commence on Saturday.
