HERE AND THERE

Singer Entertained. ' The English-speaking Union will entertain Miss Essie Ackland, the popular singer, at morning tea tomorrow at a quarter to eleven. Preparations are being made for a pleasant party, and all members are invited to be present to meet a very interesting visitor. The new rooms of the E.S.U. are fast becoming a well-known and delightful centre. Another Dance. Still another opportunity is to be given to energetic dancers on Saturday next. The Younger Set of the National Reserve has arranged one which will take place at the Southern Colledge Studio, and a wide Invitation is given as it is stated that "all who are interested are invited to attend." Arrangements have been made for a very happy evening so the attendance should be good. Surprise Party. i In order to bid farewell to Miss Phyllis Tunnicliffe on the eve of her departure for Dunedin, where she has been transferred, about forty young people surprised her with a party at the home of her parents in Plimmerton. Dancing on the verandah and singing around the piano, together with popular items given by the.Misses Ora Massey, Phyllis and Joyce* Tunniclifle and Messrs. Bill Hoflmeister and Alex Macnab passed the time very happily. After speeches in reference to the departure of the guest of honour had been made, the party presented Miss Tunniclifife, with three pieces of Stuart crystal, and "Auld Lang Sync" was sung.
