'In accordance with, a policy for the encouragement of'research in theif arranging .field the eduea-; Son' committee of the New Zealand Society of Accountants has approved the report,of a sub-committee which sets.out the conditions for a thesis competition .in which-candidates will be able to choose ■. suitable subjects. '-'The, objects;of:the competition ■ (restricted to members of the society) are to encourage research, it is stated, "t6 obtain material for the compilation of textbooks, to elicit constructive suggestions for -the improvement of !icc6unting,;methods and practice, and [to' secure material and subjects for presentation ■■ .as papers at the next i accountancy-convention in 1940. . !The thesis must show evidence of con-tstructiVe-arid original thought and be an addition to accountancy knowledge. Preference should be given to a subject, about which there is a dearth of published information and one which is of special interest to New Zealand. The prizes would be fifty .guineas, thirty guineas, and twenty guineas. The Education committee has also aereedto an expenditure up to £300 a year in the purchase of helpful books fof the branch libraries of the society.
