TURF NEWS IN BRIEF

Acceptances for the second day of the Wanganui Meeting are due at 9 o'clock tomorrow evening. Chief Ranger, who returned from, his spell six weeks ago, may resume racing at Wanganui on Saturday. Kinnoull has begun fast work at Riccarton, and so far he has given every promise of standing up to more strenuous tasks. The New Zealand horse Royal Guy (Royal Divorcer-Parette), who has recently been winning a number of hurdle races in Perth, changed over to flat racing again at the Goodwood (W.A.) Meeting a fortnight ago and easily won the principal mile and a quarter event. According to the latest report from Sydney, Genetout is back, at work at Randwick and perfectly free in his action. The French horse has thrown off all signs of soreness and appears to have' recovered from the ailment which required veterinary attention for a couple of weeks. English two-year-olds en route to Sydney for Mr. E. Norton, of Sydney, arrived in Melbourne from Liverpool last week by the liner Imperial Star. They were in the charge of Mr. C. N. Beasley. The horses are Amaranthus, a I chestnut colt by the French sire Beaudelaire; Potted Shrimp, a brown geldfing by Birthright; and Tantaliser, a I bay filly by Nothing Venture. It is seldom that a thoroughbred mare of fine pedigree has to wait ten years before being given the recognition of a name. This is the case with the recently registered Rose Song, by Hymestra from Rose Martian, a sister to Raceful. Her grandam, Rose.Red, was sister to All Red, Munjeet, Mungista, the dam of Indigo, and to Ukraine, the dam of Sasanof. Before the first race at the Combined Hunts Meeting at New Plymouth last Saturday, three two-year-I olds, Namara, Erin Lad, and Ruling Lady, were sprinted two furlongs from a standing start. Namara and Erin Lad finished together, well clear of Ruling Lady. Namara, by Lackham from Tickaday, a half-sister to Dungarvan, has a nice style of galloping. Erin Lad, by Mullaboden—Glitterbox. is to race in the Debutant Stakes at ■Wanganui on Saturday, and he impressed in a spin over three furlongs in 38sec at Wanganui yesterday mornllng. . .
