EXCELLENT SEASON

VICTORIAN RACING BOOM

For the last few seasons racing m Victoria has been on a steady upgrade. The twelve months ended July 31 last saw marked increases in attendances, and totalisator receipts were greatly in excess of those of previous years. If the improvement continues at its present rate it should not be long before racing again reaches the level of the peak years of 1926 and 1927. In common with other metropolitan clubs, the V.R.C. obtained highly satisfactory results during the season recently closed. : This is reflected in the stakes provided for the minor events to be run at the Spring Meeting, which opens at Flemington on the last Saturday next month. In the course of the Meeting,'races known as minor, or general, events number 20, and for these the (jlub is offering £17,000. . The Melbourne Cup carries a stake of £10,200 (including trophy valued £200), and when the Maribyrnong. Plate (£1500), Victoria Derby (£5000), Cantala Stakes (£2500), and Oaks Stakes (£2000) are added, the total prize-money for the meeting reaches the high altitude of £36,200, representing an increase of £5000 on that of last year.
