TAXES ABSORB DIVIDENDS

The exceptionally heavy taxation borne by companies was referred to by Mr. W. S. Newburgh yesterday at the annual meeting of Mason Struthers, Ltd., Christchurch, over which Mr. Norton Francis presided, reports "The Press." Mr. Newburgh mentioned that the accounts for the year showed that while shareholders had received £4400 in dividend and £275 was carried forward, land and income tax had taken £4100. Ho said that there appeared to be little hope of a reduction in general taxation, but land tax might come clown. He hoped that every opportunity would be taken by business men to draw attention to the burden of taxation.
