FATALLY MAULED

ELEPHANT'S KEEPER

ANIMAL RUNS AMUCK

TOWN TERRIFIED

(United Tress Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.)

(Received September 7, 11.15 a.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day.

After fatally mauling its keeper, Jack Drummett, at Parkes, an elephant belonging to Perry Brothers' circus ran amuck about the streets of the town, causing terrified residents to take refuge behind closed doors.

Two policemen attempted to herd the animal into a yard, but it charged them and they sheltered in a motortruck, which the elephant attacked and damaged. Eventually the elephant was yarded by the police and circus attendants. It is to be shot today.

Drummett was shockingly injured, having been gored by the huge tusks and hammered with the trunk.
