It stated that all the athletic events would be conducted under the rule's of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, and the cycling events under the rules of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling, Association. There were to be five open running events, five cycling events, two women's events, and four junior events. Permission was granted. The. New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association Council wrote saying that the Auckland Centre was conducting a marathon event on October 2. It invited the association to send a representative to compete in the race, which would be a trial over the distance under official conditions.
