WELLINGTON CENTRE

The monthly meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last evening, Mr. A. C. Kltto presiding. ... ■

The Petone Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club sought permission tp hold its .annual afternoon sports- meeting on.i November 27.1. It stated that all the athletic events would be conducted under the rule's of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, and the cycling events under the rules of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling, Association. There were to be five open running events, five cycling events, two women's events, and four junior events. Permission was granted. The. New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association Council wrote saying that the Auckland Centre was conducting a marathon event on October 2. It invited the association to send a representative to compete in the race, which would be a trial over the distance under official conditions. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the harrier sub-committee for its consideration.

The athletic sub-committee was granted £5 5s to meet the expenses of the opening of the season in October. ','..■-.

Permission W9s granted the Labour Day sports committee to hold its annual meeting pn October 25. A letter was received from the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association Council stating that the council had decided that the registration numbers for the 1937-38 season would be black numbers on a white background. The harrier: sub-committee applied for a.grant of £17 10s;, being half the estimated cost of sending a representative team to the New Zealand crosscountry championship at Timaru. It was decided to grant the sum. It was stated that the W. B. Bennett Memorial Road Race, which is a 7-miles team race, was to be held on September 25.
