His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral presided at a meeting of the Executive Council this morning.

Motions of condolence were passed at the meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last evening to Mr. H. W. Thompson, an old member of the centre, on the death of his father, and to Father Cleary (Nelson delegate to the centre) on the death of his mother.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. Lionel Nelson was passed at a meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last evening.

Mr. J. O'Shea, City Solicitor, and. Mrs. O'Shea, are on their way back from England by the Mongolia and anticipate reaching Wellington on October .11. Mr. O'Shea went to England as counsel for the Municipal Association to present the case of a number of local bodies in New Zealand in regard to a question of interest rates on overseas loan moneys.

An acknowledgment of a message conveying the - Wellington Rotary Club's congratulations on his appointment as Vicar of Halifax, England, and expressing regret at the severance,of his active association with the club was received from Canon Percival James at yesterday's luncheon. Canon James expressed his deep regret at leaving Wellington and the many friends he had made in the Rotary Club movement and elsewhere.
