FAST HALF AT WANCANUI

The weather was fine for training operations this morning. The number one grass track was on the heavy side for the early work owing to dew, but it was better later on.

Middle and Debhain ran half a mile in 51 4-ssec, the former being a shade in front. Both were wide out.

Protector and: Royal; Chief went, from the five-furlong post, the former pulling up after running two furlongs in 24sec. Royal Chief went on to register lmin 4sec.

Black Fox and Rhodesian ran half a mile in 52sec. • ' >

Joe Louis went three furlongs in 38 l-ssec. Grand rfury did the last half-mile of a round in 51£ sec. Felicitation and Mahutai ran three furlongs in 37 l-ssec.

Pakanui sprinted an excellent halfmile in 48 l-ssec while the going was still on the soft side.

Joviality' took 50sec for half a mile.

After breakfast Slippery ran three furlongs in 39Jsec,, Amigo and Toaiti taking 38 l-ssec.

Might slipped over seven furlongs in lmin 32 2-ssec. Free Gold and Peerless did three-quarter-pace work separately.

Hunting Cat ran six furlongs, accompanied over five furlongs by Top Hat, who took ■ lmin ssec. . Amatory did three furlongs in 38sec. Cyclopean ran six furlongs in lmin 22sec. Minga' and Fabric did three furlongs, comfortably in 39sec.

Useful work was done by Cerne Abbas, Icing, Relative, Entail, Sigurd, Dissipation, and a number of others. Book Law schooled over three of the big fences and jumped well. Even Money and Master Norval . jumped three hurdles without mistake. •
