CHRISTCHURCH, September 6.

A' special message from a representative .of the "Press" aboard the "Wahirie states that a man ■ .was lost overboard at 9.40 o'clock tonight. The only description available is that he was young, dressed in a grey suit, and wearing a heavy overcoat. The steamer ran,probably two miles before the occurrence was reported to the bridge. Captain Howie immediately turned the ship, circled , the spot three times, and had a boat prepared in readiness. The night .was black with rain and the'search was hopeless.1 After one hour the ship resumed its course.
