ON GUARD
RESERVE SUPPLY OF SHORTS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day,
In spite of the failure of R. M. McKenzie (Manawatu) to return his damaged shorts after the first Test the All Blacks were well equipped today and can face a threat of damage to their most essential garments with equanimity. Yesterday a firm of outfitters received an urgent telephone call from the New Zealand Rugby Union that ten pairs of shorts were wanted in time for today's match. The order was most important and there must be no question of delay or failure to complete the contract on time.
These shorts will be jealousy guarded by the union. There must be no repetition of the regrettable incident of Ihe first Test when McKenzie failed to hand in shorts that were-torn off him during the game. The New Zealand Union does not want again to be put to the trouble of writing to one of its affiliated unions to find out what has happened to fragments of garments carelessly cast aside.
