INDUSTRIAL OUTLOOK

A HOPEFUL VIEW

INTERESTS OF DOMINION

■ Since July of last year there had been considerable ; changes from one week to another in the'matters of hours and wages, remarked Mr. M. J. Reardon, Conciliation Commissioner, in acknowledging complimentary references to his conduct of the proceedings at the adjournment of the New Zealand printing trades dispute yesterday afternoon. "After all," Mr. Reardon continued, "we are all in this little country together, and we'all rise or fall together. I am hoping that as a result of the Arbitration- Court's pronouncement on standard wages we will be able to settle down to a more stabilised period in industrial matters.

I think that in the interests of the country as a whole we should, how turn our attention to other things for the purpose of improving our ( lot in life and letting the country move along on an even keel for twelve months.

"If the Court's pronouncement giveS, us all the opportunity of doing that, I think it will be a very valuable piece of legislation in the interests of the whole country. I think that it must appear to all of: us that the whole position has been a bit unbalanced by reason of the violent changes, and I feel that ,the time has now come for, us to settle down to the job of making a success not only of this busi-, ness but of the industrial activities of the country, as a whole.".
