LOSS TO PROFIT
SOUTH WALES COAL MINES

RUGBY, September 2,
In spite of the higher wages paid to the miners, the South Wales coal industry earned a profit of £78,298, equal to 2d per ton, in the three months ended July 21. According to the auditor's report this compares with a loss of £182,056 for the same period last year. The higher wages paid to the workmen increased the cost of production by roughly lOd per ton.
