2000-MILE TAXI RIDE

NEW ZEALANDERS' TOUR

(Received September 4, 10 a.m.)

LONDON, September 3,

The wife of G. Owen, taxi-driver, of Crouch End, has received daily a picture postcard from her husband describing the progress of the 2000-mile tour round Britain on which the New Zealanders, Mr. George Runciman and his wife and two daughters; embarked a fortnight ago.

A London cable on August 27 stated that two Aucklanders on holiday, Mr. and Mrs. George Eunciman, told a London taxi-driver to drive round the town.' A week later they were gathering seashells at John o' Groats, and the taximeter, it was stated, was still ticking while Scots gazed, in amazement. Mr. Runciman, after touring England by taxi,, decided to see John o' Groats, whence his grandmother emigrated. The travellers covered a thousand miles. The taxi-driver admitted that he was homesick.
