N.Z. CRICKETERS

MATCH WITH ENGLAND XI

KERR'S 1000 RUNS

(From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association.)

(Received September 4, 10 a.m.) FOLKESTONE, September 3.

The cricket match between an England XI and New Zealand ended in a draw in which the tourists had good cause to feel satisfied with their performance. The England Xls second innings was declared closed at 186 for nine wickets, and New Zealand made 182 for two wickets before stumps were drawn. The weather wasifine, but the wicket, although in good order, was inclined to assist the bowlers.

New Zealand accomplished a fine performance in dismissing a strong side so cheaply on a slightly helpful -wicket. Hammond and Edrich scored quickly for half an hour, but New Zealand then capttlred five wickets for only 12 runs. Donnelly, after finding a length, spun the ball back from leg, and took two valuable wickets, one of the batsmen being well caught at first slip. BATSMEN BAMBOOZLED. . Cowie made great pace off the pitch". For about eight overs he seemed to have all the batsmdn bamboozled. When Roberts and Dunning were reintroduced each took a quick wicket. Seven wickets were captured for 50 runs.

England declared at lunch, and New Zealand were left two hours and a quarter to make 219 runs. As the Englishmen bowled accurately and fielded keenly the task proved to be beyond the batsmen.

Kerr completed his 1000 runs for first-class matches. Wallace gave^an excellent display of well-played and well-placed strokes;' The wicket was dusty on the surface, the ball popping occasionally, and the batsmen having to watch carefully.

Tindill played his last game of the tour. He has taken 51 wickets, 32 caught and 19 stumped.
