FOOD FROM GRASS

WARTIME POSSIBILITY

RICH IN PROTEINS

(Received September 4, 1 p.m.)

LONDON, September 3,

Food rich in proteins and which can be manufactured from grass as a wartime diet for Britons is described by Dr. R. E. Slade.of London, before the British Association.

He said it was possible to obtain 700 pounds of crude proteins from an acre of grass which would make useful food for pigs, and also, in-, an emergency, a nutritious and palatable ration for people. All the arable land in Britain, if sown in grass, could produce enough "cheese" to feed 40,000,000 people.
