JUVENILE READING
The' Lower Hutt' Municipal Library has now completed its arrangements for opening a juvenile section. Though this will not be officially started until the beginning of the next term, already some, fifty children have taken advantage of its facilities during the holidays. The children have a modern, well-lighted alcove to themselves. The books are all new and have been chosen very, carefully. Travel, biographies; nature study, history, and English literature are well represented, as w.ell as the best type of story. These books are for the most part well bound and well printed, and should prove a boon-to parents, who want to break the habit of the incessant reading of "comics." It is very interesting to note that of the books already being taken out a large number prefer a book about something real, to mere fiction. The "Book of Modern Invention" and "The, Book of Electricity," for instance, are continually being changed by enthusiastic boys.. The encyclopaedias are also being well read. The alcove is well furnished with small tables and chairs, as a reading room, and the best of children's magazines are available for the young student. Altogether the children of Lower Hutt are well catered for with regard to their home reading.
