CENTENARIAN'S DEATH
Mr. George Anderson, whose death was reported from Hokitika yesterday at the age of 107 years, was born in County Armagh in Ireland in the year 1830. In. 1852 he left Ireland to try his luck on the gold fields of Australia, landing in Victoria and going to Ballarat. Two years later he returned to Ireland with his brother in the ship British Queen. Some time later he set sail for New Zealand and landed at the port of Greymouth. He went to Dunstan in Otago in 1864, where he spent three years before moving on to Hokitika. During all these years he had followed the gold mining. One of the hardy type of pioneers, he was a self-made man.
