KOHN SHIELD FINAL
The. Wellington Tramways Rugby football team beat Auckland 6-0 in the final for the Kohn Shield, played at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, yesterday. Christchurch was the other competing team, but was eliminated by Auckland on Wednesday. Conditions were unpleasant with occasional showers of light rain. The game was ragged throughout and, at times there was rough play. Both teams lacked combination and
many passing rushes were spoilt by mishandling. The forwards worked hard and were fairly evenly matched, but received little assistance from the backs. ""' The winners' points came from an unconverted try by H. Siverson and a penalty kick by G. Lofchore. • The teams were:— ' Wellington.—Full-back, O. Lochore; three-quarters, L. Elliott, G. Leonard, H. Holmes; five-eighths, V. Maher, A. McElwain; half-back, J. Foster; frontrow forwards, T. Troy, J. Young, A. O'Sullivan; middle-row, E. Cleverley, T. Russell (captain), B. Beauchamp, L. Maher; back row, H.- Siverson. Auckland.—Full-back, R. Price; three-quarters, A. Kinnaird, J. Stockley, J. Macey; five-eighths, J. Anderson (captain), R. Lockie; half-back, A. Pearce; front-row forwards, L. Jones, R. Somers, J. Steaiart; middle row. A. Gunn, J. Coughlan, B. Taplin, B. Richardson; back-row, M. J. Buchanan. The referee was Mr. A. R. Morris. Jim Braddock,-the ex-heavyweight champion, has Eeen offered a fight in Los Angeles with Bob Nestell or Maxie Baer. The fight will be held this month probably. Braddock ,is tickled to death to come to Los Angeles, and all there 'is left to the match is to get Nestell or Baer to sign on the dotted line.' The bout will be staged by Promoter Mike Jacobs, who has Braddock under contract (says the "Knockout").
