TROTTING BREVITIES
Acceptances for the ■Wellington Trotting Club's Meeting'on September 11 close on Monday at 8 p.m. Dark Hazard, one of the most premising young pacers of the season just closed, has been entered as a trotter for the Wellington Meeting. He is by Great Bingen, and any of the progeny of that super racehorse might trot or pace. It will be an interesting experiment in a horse as good as Dark Hazard (says the'"Press"). The' Bollard Memorial Handicap at Wellington, a 4min 33sec class race -over two miles, looks like «provlding a great race, fqr only 12 yards separates a good-sized field which is confined to young pacers'that have given every indication of reaching the highest class (says the "Press"). Aide de Camp, Casanova, Frisco Lady, U. Scott, and Lady Fame are all recent winners, and the favourite at this stage is hard to find. The acceptances will possibly find a weeding-out, but at present the field is one of the most evenly-bal-anced ever entered for a race at Hutt Park. "Sentinel" writes as follows on the Trotting Cup conditions: "The onus of eliminating a horse or horses from the field might land the club in a very serious position. An owner and trainer may hold what they deem quite reasonable grounds for starting a horse, and where does a club stand if it decides that such horse cannot start? We have seen recently where an owner secured substantial damages because an accident depreciated a winning chance. If a horse deemed sound and ready to race by the owner and trainer is debarred from starting, where would 'a club stand in regard to a financial risk?" '
"In common with qther racing bodies, this club is sharing the increased spending power of the people and the committee has been, able to make several improvements, while further improvements are contemplated,:' reported the chairman, Mr. J. T. Young, at the 22nd annual meeting of the Waipa Racing Club this week. A net profit of £822 9s was shown.;
