Southerly or south-easterly winds hare persisted on parts of the east coast and about Cook Strait and have been fresh to strong in the latter area. Otherwise winds have been moderate generally in force and rather rarlable In direction, with easterlies and north-easterlies predominating. Except in the west coast and far ■ southern portions of tho South Island, where it has been mainly fair, tho weather has been dull and misty with fairly widespread rain, some rather heavy falls occurring since last night in the northorn half of the North Island.
