NEW ZEALAND CUP
55 HORSES NOMINATED
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the * "Evening Post.")
CHRISTCHURCH, September 3.
With fifty-five horses in the list, the; Canterbury Jockey Club has received three more nominations for the New Zealand Cup. than was the case, last year. Riccarton claims 14 candidates, and there are 13 from other parts of the South Island ■ and 28 from the North Island. Out of last year's entry 18 are in the race again, among them being Fersen, the winner, and Werohia, second, with Argentic and Might, two of the unplaced lot. Fersen is,not the only previous winner engaged, as Cuddle is another that is eligible .to score a second success in a race which has never yet been .won twice by any horse. Cottingham is the veteran of the list, the Grand National Hurdles /inner being nine years old. The five-year-olds and six-year-olds are most strongly represented, with 16 of the last age, and seven- and eight-year-olds claim eight, with four-year-olds numbering six. There is not a three-year-old in the field. As usual, the list contains many horses that seem to be highly flattered in being nominated. .
