HISTORICAL ROMANCE
Historical romance is well handled by C. E. Lawrence in "The Gods Were Sleeping" (Murray), which is a tale of the days of King Richard 111. Since this period is one the historical records of which are confused, contradictory,, and prejudiced, a novelist can more easily build his story without endangering historical probability. While the fate of the Princes in the Tower is one of the problems of history, Mr. Lawrence makes no attempt to solve it, but uses the episode as part of his.story which goes its vivacious And entertaining way over the background of the vital and flamboyant life of the medieval decadence.
