SHOOTING OF PUKEKO
(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This .Day. . The ' suggestion ..of a 'snort open shooting season for pukeko -was: favoured by the Palmerston' North branch of'the Wellington' Acclimatisation Society; which-met last evening. Itwas reported that proof had been furnished of pukekos destroying_ young ducks and eggs. It was decided to recommend a fortnight's shooting at .the end of the season. The opinion was expressed later in the meeting that duck breeding at Awapuni sanctuary would never be satisfactory until the pukekos were greatly reduced in numbers.
