NELSON NEWS

VARIOUS PARTIES

(From "The Post's" Representative.) NELSON, July 29.

A small "five . o'clock" party was I given this week by Mr. J. P. Hayes and Miss D. Hayes. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Leggatt, Colonel and Mrs. Lorimer, Dr. and Mrs. Williams, and Dr. and Mrs. D. C. Low. A very delightful children's party was given by Mrs. W. G. Hilliard at Bishopdale for her small daughter Helen. The day was cold, but the guests had lots of fun indoors over an impromptu entertainment. Picture parties are very popular, with either dinner before hand or supper afterwards. Hosts recently have been Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Cock, Dr. and Mrs. Williams, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Leggatt. A very enjoyable bridge party was given a few days ago by Mrs. R. H. Davies at her home on the Port Hills, and the room looked charming with early spring flowers and a blazing log fire. Some of the guests were Mesdames J: Hume, J. P. S. Jamieson, C. Campbell Smith, D. C. Low, J. Williams, H. S. Leggatt, E. T. Menlove, C. R. Fell, and Misses Rees, Turton, and Gray. Farewell. A very happy lime was spent a few evenings ago by a large number of parishioners, when they met to bid farewell to the Rev. Neil Chambers, who is leaving All Saints to take over the Sounds' Parish. Mr. Chambers is also to be married soon, and on behalf of the congregation Mr. F. I. Ledger made him a presentation. Mr. Chambers has been in sole charge of the parish whilst Canon Hauilain lias been in England. Both the Bishop and Dean Haggitt spoke of Mr. Chambers's work in terms of high praise. Canon and Mrs. Haultain return to Nelson next week. Personal Items. Mrs. P. B. Adams and Miss C. Evans have arrived in Auckland after a trip to Honolulu. Miss Evans returns to Nelson next week, but Mrs. Adams will be staying for some days with Colonel and Mrs. Noel Adams, Auckland. Mrs. and Miss D. Denshire, Christchurch, who have been staying at Wainui House for some weeks, returned to the south at the end of last. week. Miss Barbara Jamieson, elder daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. P. S. Jamieson, who has been training in Karitane work in Auckland, returned to Nelson last. week.
