MOTOR-SHIP ESSEX

With.a draught by the stern of 33ft 7in the new Federal Line motor-ship Essex, which. berthed .. this morning, broke the Auckland record f°r merchant tonnage. H.M.S. Hood, 42,000 tons, drew only 32ft. 6in.. Some units of the United States navy, which visited the port in 1925, however, drew up to 35ft. No difficulty, was experienced in berthing the Essex.. '..-',
