His Excellency the Governor-Q«awiA presided at a meeting of the Executive Council yesterday morning.

Dr. P. D. Cameron will leave Wellington for the south tonight.

Professor G. S. Peren, principal of Massey Agricultural College, will travel south tonight.

Mr. C. A. Woolley, superintendent of the Wellington Fire Brigade, leaves this evening for Auckland'on a month's leave. Mr. J. Creeke, deputy superintendent, returned today from a similar period of leave spent in the Bay ol Plenty district.

Mr. J. I. Craig, Commissioner of Customs in Egypt and consultant economist to the Egyptian Government, is expected at Auckland next Tuesday by the Wanganella. He will later visit Wellington and will leave for Australia by the Wanganella on August 5. Mr. Craig has been intimately connected with Egyptian affairs .for many years, and until recently held the-posi-tion of secretary to the Department of Finance. He is at present investigating the prospects of improving trade relations between Egypt and Australia and will carry out a similar mission in New Zealand. He will also lecture on Egypt with the idea of promoting tourist traffic and inducing travellers to spend some time in Egypt en route to or from Great Britain.

Mr. H. F. Norman, general passenger manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, arrived in Wellington this morning from the South Island.

The Rev. E. O. Blamires returned to Wellington this morning from the south.

Captain S. E. A. Gregory, marine superintendent of the Port Line, arrived in Wellington from the South Island this morning.

Mr. K. G. Smith, of Messrs. James Smith, Ltd., who has been on a brief visit to London, is due to arrive at Auckland by the Arawa early this afternoon. Should the boat arrive in time, he will probably reach Wellington by the Limited tomorrow morning, or failing this, on Sunday morning.

Dr. P. S. de Q. Cabot, a member of the well-known Otago family, who 13 on -the professorial staff of Harvard University, is visiting relatives in the Dominion and left .. Wellington last evening with Mrs. Cabot for the South Island. A brother of G. S. Cabot, the champion walker, Dr. Cabot graduated at Otago University. He represented Otago at Rugby against the Springboks in 1921, and also played for New, Zealand against New South Wales in the same year. On going to the United States he played a prominent part in establishing Rugby in the eastern States. Dr. Cabot has timed his visit well.in view of the forthcoming Springboks' tour, and he will have a special interest in the matches his holiday will enable him to see.

Sympathy was expressed at the monthly meeting of the Great War Funds Administrative Committee of the Red Cross Society to Mr. C. S. Falconer, Dominion secretary of the Grand Priory of St. John in New Zealand, in his indisposition, and good wishes were extended for his recovery.

The resignation of Colonel J. J. Essoa from the Great War Funds Administrative Committee of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society, advised by the Dominion Secretary of the Order of St. John, was received with regret at the monthly meeting of the committee. Dr. Graham Robertson has been appointed his successor.

Sir Charles Statham was welcomed to the Great War Funds Administrative Committee, Order.of St. John, and New Zealand Red Cross Society, at its last monthly meeting.
