TEACHERS'ATTITUDE
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Under cover of the nom-de-plume "Presbyterian," a correspondent in your columns yesterday referred to the New Zealand Educational Institute "and kindred bodies" as leading on the "anti-religious section of the people." In reply to this it is only necessary to refer your correspondent to the ministers of religion who have been responsible for carrying out. religious exercises in schools under .the Nelson system.' These gentlemen will be able to inform "Presbyterian" of the willing co-operation in their work thai they have always received from teachers throughout New Zealand. Nosmall share of this co-operation has been given by executive members of the institute and by the headmasters who formed the recent deputation to the Education Board. If any further evidence is required we refer "Presbyterian" to the hundreds, of our members, especially those in country districts, who in Bible classes, Sunday schools, church choirs,' and the like are doing their utmost to further the cause of Christian religion. Their work alone refutes the unjust and unfounded assertions of your correspondent. '_~'.■ The institute's cisc against the Bible-in-Schools movement rests on educational grounds, on the grounds of morality and religion, and on the grounds of justice. Abuse of a respected profession in no way answers thaft cass.-For and on behalf of the executive,
' E. S. ANDREWS; Assistant Secretary, N.Z. Educational Institute.
