DAMAGE TO COMPANY'S
PROPERTY

SYDNEY, This Day,
A message from Rabaul states that the Vulcan Island and Matupi volcanoes are now quiet and that only a wisp of smoke is ascending from the craters.
Sir -Walter Carpenter, managing director of W. R. Carpenter and Co., Ltd., trading to the Islands, estimates, according to the "Sun," that the damage to his company's property at Rabaul is £35,000, only £10,000 of which is not covered by insurance. The damage to shipping, approximately £25,000, is covered by marine policies.
