FRIENDLY SOCIETIES
REPORT ON ACTIVITIES
The activities of the Wellington Kriendly Societies' Indoor Bowling Association during last season were reviewed when the annual meeting of the association was held recently. There was a good attendance of members of lodges, Bro. W. Francis presiding.
A motion of sympathy was passed and the meeting stood adjourned for five minutes as a mark oi respect to the memory of Brd. N. G. Key, secretary of Court Sir Geo. Grey, and of Bro, Tester.
. The secretary (Bro. F. E. Matthews) presented a lengthy report of the associations activities, during .the last season. The report stated that there had been only one default out of 104 gamss. ' - - ■,-.•■ The tournaments were keenly contested'and the umpire (Brd. F.E: Mat-thews)-was not called upon to make any ruling. The Taylor-Rblph Cup was won by the Court Sir Geo. Grey A.O.F. rink, gaining the possible points. Court Loyal Northland and Court Lady Glasgow were runners-up. Court Sir Geo. Grey also won' the President's Shield, Bro. G. W. Key, jun., being the skip of the both winning rinks. The ruhners-up in this tournament were Court Sir Wm. Jervois A rink, skipped by Bro.. W. Francis. The champion-of-champions tournament for the Doreen Cup, named after the secretary's daughter, • was won by. Court Loyal Northland after a play-off with Coronation Lodge, U.A.O.D. Bro. Adams was the skip of the winning rink and each .member received an engraved miniature of the cup. Bro. C. Cooper, skip of the runners-up, also received a prize. During the year the association paid friendly visits, to various lodges, etc., and on each occasion had an enjoyable game. The secretary was thanked for his comprehensive report. The election of officers resulted as follows:—lmmediate* past president, Bro. 'E'• L. J. Laughton; president, Sister A. Tester; vice-president, , Bro. W. Francis; secretary-treasurer, Bro. F. E. Matthews (re-elected); management committee. Sister J. Kivell, Bros. C. Cooper, P. Johnson, H. A. Plank, W. T. Torkington; auditor, Bro. R. Pattison; trustees,. F. E. Matthews and J. McGee. ■ , The season is to open-at the :winter Show Buildings on June 22. • .
