ELDERLY MAN KILLED

COMPANION INJURED

CHRISTCHURCH, June 2.

One man was killed instantly and another injured when a motor-lorry left the Coalgate-Sheffield road five miles from Coalgate and somersaulted over a steep-bank at aoout 1.45-p.m. this afternoon. . - .

George K. Crysell, married, aged 70 years, of Cust.'was killed. He received terrible head injuries, including a fractured skull. ■ .

Arthur Reginald Forbes, married, Cust, the driver of. the lorry, received wounds and abrasions to the head and body, but was not seriously hurt.

Mr. Forbes, who was accompanied by Mr. Crysell, was- driving the motorlorry along the road near the Bonanza Mine,when, after turning a bend in the road, the lorry left, tne wheel tracks on. the road. After recovering its position, it shot straight across the other side of the road, where it somersaulted over the steep bank, coming to rest against a wire fence about 12ft below the rflad. .

The driver of another lorry who passed shortly afterwards noticed the overturned vehicle and hearing moans from beneath it quickly obtained'the help of several miners to life the overturned vehicle, under which the two men were pinned.
