STATEMENT DENIED
MAYOR OF LOWER HUTT
REPLIES
Referring to Mr. Semple's reported statement regarding licences, the Mayor of Lower Hutt, Mr. J. W. ( Andrews, today gave the statement a point-blank denial so far as it concerned Lower Hutt. He said that no new licences were issued without a test of the applicant, and this test was just as rigorous as that which applicants in the city had to go through. In any case, continued Mr. Andrews, the borough observed to the letter the regulations which provided for the licence being taken out where the car was garaged, or where the applicant resided if he was a non-owner.
