VALUABLE CATTLE

KAIRANGA CLEARING SALE

At the clearing sale' held by the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Co., Ltd., on account of Mr. H. E. Turner, Kairanga, on Monday, prices were reminiscent of those ruling during the boom years. During the twenty years that Mr. Turner has been dairying, by heavy culling and the use of sires showing the backing of high butterfat production, the herd has been built up to the top position in' the-North Island among the large herds operating under the Herd Testing Association's rules. As ■ the annual butterfat production during the pasj- five years of every cow submitted was available, purchasers bid with confidence, and the range of prices was easily the highest ruling for many years y»st. The average price paid for the 71. cows .submitted, including unsound arid empty cows, was £14 6s a head; excluding unsound and empty the average price was £15 Bs, while 50 of the top-priced cows averaged £16 9s a head. The two-year heifers to calve averaged £10 12s 6d, and the heifer calves £6 5s 6d a head. The offering of 105 head—7l cows, 13 incalf heifers, and 21 heifer calves, aver-aged-the abnormally high level of £12 3s 6d a head. The fact that'a considerable number of the cows, are not due to calve until September, October, and November did not deter buyers, and bidding was as free on these late calyers as it was on those'coming in in July and August. .
