Windy conditions made the scoring generally poor in the first round of the Hawlings Trophy, 18 holes bogey play, L. J. Evans, 2 up, leading the field, M. De Woolf and J. M. Futter being next, all square. Other cards were: H. B. Craighead and A. V. O'Brien, 1 down.
With improved playing conditions in the afternoon several good cards were returned in the 18-hole stroke competition, the winner being G. MacDonald, 84,24—60; next being E. Smith, 72, 11—61; E. F. Craighead, 76, 14— 82; A. Charles, 80, 15—65; H. Wilson, 89, 24—65; and J. Elton, 87, 22—65.
The second round of the Esiwlings Trophy will be played next Sunday, and the semi-finals of the Black and Stratmore Cups must be played. During the weekend the matches in the Black and Stratmore Cups were advanced to the semi-flnals, the results of the gamesplayed being as follows: Black Cup—Second round: C. W. Eversleigh (9) beat D. B. Stratmore (4). 1 up after replay; E. F. Craighead (14) beat T. McWhirter (13), 1 up after replay. Quarter-final: E. F. Craighead (14) beat C. W. Eversleigh (9), 7 and 5; W. H. KUby (11) beat A. E. Watkins (8), 1 up after replay; A. G. Minifie (15) beat T. O'Kelly (14), 7 aad 6: B. Smith (11) beat L. W. MCr Ofrr (5), 4 and 3. Stratmore Cup— Second round: C. Aamodt (23) beat H. B. Carruthera (22). 4 and 3 after two replays; H. B. Craighead (17) beat A. Thomson (16), 3 and 2 after replay.. Quarter-finals: E. Pattison (18) beat Sim Wilson (24), 4 and 2; J. Watkins (16) beat C. Aamodt (23), 2 up; H. B. Craighead (15) beat Geo. Estall (17), 9 and 7: L. J. Nicolson (17) and C. Stewart (20), after two replays, are still all square and will have to play again next Saturday.
