HUIA 8 V. WESLEY 4
On the Naenae No, 1 ground, which was in good order, Huit and Wesley played a keen game with fairly even exchanges. The Wesley forwards went into action first and after several tries got the ball through from the right wing, Maloney sending it into the net. Huia retaliated with a series of attacks but the Wesley defence was sound, and a smart run at the Huia goal let the Wesley inside-left into the circle, Maloney. forcing, the ball into the net. Practically from the bully, the Huia forwards went through, and the centre-forward, • Dentice, got in a good corner shot. Huia attacked again, but good work in goal'sent play to the other end where Wesley secured a profitless corner. Huia's efforts to even the score caused some very fast play, quick passing enabling Martin to .pass from, the left-wing to Dentice, who snapped the ball into the corner, making the score 2-all. A few seconds later-Dentice scored a third goal for Huia, and .Wheatley added a fourth^ Almost immediately after the bully that started the second half, Wheatley centred and Brown scored with a fast shot, but a few. minutes later Rouse netted two for Wesley in quick succession, the second one being from a good reverse stroke. Huia pressed hard but could not get a clear shot. One went in but it had been "carried," and a cross-shot from Wheatley's stick was lifted over the bar by Martin. However, Martin did better a few seconds later when he centred i for Dentice to score and make the score 6-4. Huia added another when Cotter, the right-wing, tried a cross-shot and got in just behind the post. The eighth goal came from a corner, Wheatley driving into the net after Brown had stopped the ball. There was no further score and the game ended: Huia .8, Wesley 4. .
Mr. H. Hatch was umpire.
