The pace was not on over the first bit, but the steeplechaser was moving smoothly to cut the last five furlongs out in lmin 10 3-ssec.

Manawatu (A. McDonald) was given easy exercise and then a pipe-opener on the course proper. He'appears to be in great order and he. should not take long- to reach top form. Flammarion, with N. Voitre, was re-, stricted to strong pace work, and he did his best to pull his rider out of the saddle. To ride Flammarion during pace work is a full-sized job for anyone. ' . ■

Gay Boy (Anderson) was never at top in a' six-furlong flutter which took him lmin 25sec- Gay Boy is looking a picture. Esteem, ■ (B. Brown) and Pango (Mansfield) sprinted, five furlongs in lmin 8 4-ssec, and it was.a nice effort, They finished together. Corroboree (G. Tattersall), who has 9.1 in the Oringi Handicap on Friday, was galloped a mile, and Chat joined in at the seven. They were together with three furlongs to go, the first five hailing taken, lmin 7 3-ssec, and Chat then drew ahead to lead into the straight. Corroboree, however, was bowling -along smoothly and in the run to the post he ran up to Chat and was a length to the good at the finish. The time for the full distance was lmin 50 3-ssec, and Corroboree did his work nicely. The last to gallop was Catalogue (R. Chisholm) and he-had the worst track. His task was a mile, which he covered in lmin 51isec, and his last five took lmin 10 2-ssec. He worked well throughout.-
